Abstract
During the last few decades much research has been done on the health risks involved in certain kinds of work and exposure to toxic substances emplyoed in industry as well as the more general issue of the changes brought about in the style and quality of workers’ lives. Rather less attention has, however, been paid to the social, health, and psychological conditions of the jobless, and this general neglect spans the age brackets most suited for productive work. Nevertheless, various international organizations (OECD, WHO, EEC) have for some time been drawing attention to the great influence these conditions can have on physical and mental health.
