Abstract

Abstract The microscopic mechanism of the successive phase transition in BaTiO3 is investigated by considering the distribution of the Ti ions in the unit cells according to Maxwell-Boltzmann statistics, where the numerical calculation of the integration is achieved by dividing the cell into the mesh of the cube (0.001 A)3. It is considered that the spontaneous Kerr effect is one of the mechanisms necessary to the successive phase transition in BaTiO3. The critical points of the successive cubic-tetragonal-orthorhombic-rhom bohedral phase transition can be estimated approximately by this calculation.
