Abstract

Many contrasting utopian visions have been offered by an array of writers and designers since Thomas More first coined the term in the early 16th century. The Chthonopolis is one of the most recent. Conceived by architect and curator Nic Clear – now Head of the Department of Architecture and 3D Design at the University of Huddersfield – when he was Professor of Architecture at the University of Greenwich, it is an underground city of the future that mingles architecture with science fiction.
