Abstract

This study was intended to evaluate the subculture in the online youth popular music community in China. This study was significant to the youth to facilitate online sub-cultural communities about digital medium, music sharing, and joining in social networking. It is essential to highlight that significant organization and publishers have linked themselves with the discipline to confirm the validity and acceptance of popular music. Ethnography was used as a critical methodological approach to study subculture and online youth popular music in this research. The results indicate that subculture in online youth popular music is significantly influenced in their daily lives. Young people are becoming more reliant on popular music and the technology to listen to it. Today's young people may see online popular music and music subculture as a new phenomenon. Subcultures in the online youth popular music community seem to be extremely compatible with rich media, online communities, and the development and reproduction of strong connections between communicators. It was claimed that online youth popular music was an important event for youth to establish friendships and other social networking to participate in music community.
