Abstract

The subcritical crack-growth behaviour of natural cracks in three high-grade alumina ceramics — being considered as candidate materials for containers to be used for the ultimate storage of high level radioactive waste — is tested in a concentrated salt solution. A lifetime method is applied for determination of the v- K l curves of subcritical crack growth.
