Abstract

Subcoulomb breakup of 8B on a 58Ni target has been studied, at an incident energy of 26 MeV. These data provide a measure of the E2 component of the breakup cross section as a function of the astrophysical factor S 17 for radiative capture of protons on 7 Be. Implications for the solar neutrino problem are discussed.
