Abstract
This work presents the results of a research project aimed at studying the coding of audio signals in order to obtain a compact and efficient digital representation for transmission or storage purposes. A psychoacoustic model based on sub-band coding is implemented in MATLAB®, which identifies the type of audio: voice or music signal, based on a model of the human auditory system. Our focus was on measuring the relationship between reduced transmission/storage bitrate and audio quality.
