Abstract

Abstract Nanofluids have evoked immense interest among the researchers because of their enhanced thermal and heat transfer properties. Anomalous heat transfer behaviour of nanofluids have been a major area of focus for the researchers. In this paper influence of Al2O3 (alumina) nanoparticles on nucleate pool boiling of distilled water has been studied. The concentration of nanoparticles varied from 0.001% to 0.5% by weight. Experimental investigations were carried out to investigate the heat transfer behaviour during the nucleate pool boiling of nanoparticle based fluids at sub atmospheric pressure. Experiments are carried out to investigate the impact of concentration of nanoparticles with base fluid distilled water on the heat transfer coefficient at varying subatmospheric pressure from 45 KN/m2 to 100 KN/m2. The experimental results show a significant enhancement of 34% in the heat transfer coefficient at 0.05% concentration alumina in distilled water.
