Whether personnel management is perceived to be about ‘the optimum utilisation of human resources’, or about the ‘regulation of the employment relationship’, or about ‘managing the contradictions of capitalism and patriarchy’, how have these different orientations been expressed in the ways in which personnel specialists and line managers enact what they see to be personnel management or ‘managing employee relations’?
