Abstract

So far, the size of industrial energy and recovery boilers has been increased continuously. This development has led to a situation where the middle parts of the large boilers are extremely difficult to reach with traditional measurement methods. Due to this, our research group has studied possibilities to develop a mobile sensor ball propagating freely also in the center parts of combustion chambers. The sensor ball will consist of sensor electronics with sensor elements and a protective cover or envelope. The duty of the envelope is to delay the heating of sensor electronics inside the ball. This article focuses on studying the thermal protection issues of the sensor ball and its operation times in flames.
