Study on various physical properties of PbO–As 2O 3 glasses containing manganese ions

Abstract

PbO–As 2O 3 glasses containing different concentrations of MnO (ranging from 0 to 1 mol% in steps of 0.25%) were prepared. A number of studies, viz., differential thermal analysis, IR spectra, optical absorption, thermoluminescence characteristics, magnetic susceptibilities and dielectric properties (constant ϵ l, loss tan δ, a.c. conductivity σ ac and breakdown strength), on these glasses are carried out as a function of manganese ion concentration. The interesting changes observed in these properties are discussed in the light of various oxidation states of manganese ions.
