Abstract

Time of flight (TOF) is an important concept in many electron optical instruments including TOF analyzers and streak camera image tubes. In this article, successive approximation approach is applied to study the TOF properties of uniform magnetic sector field analyzers. The charged particle trajectories in the magnetic field analyzers are calculated up to the third-order approximation and the corresponding solutions are obtained. Therefore, the TOF properties of the uniform magnetic sector field analyzers are analytically derived up to the third-order approximation.
