Abstract

Most of the soil in practice is unsaturated, it’s essential to study the stability of unsaturated soil slope. Based on the shear strength theory of unsaturated soil and the finite element strength reduction method, numerical analysis were done for the stability of an unsaturated soil slope in two cases, which one for considering the matric suction and the other not. The results showed that, for the unsaturated soil slope, the horizontal displacement and the equivalent plastic strain have an increased tendency with the increase of the reduction coefficient until the slope failure. Meanwhile, the existence of matric suction can increase the factor of safety of unsaturated soil slope.
