Abstract

Rainfall-induced landslides are caused by an accumulation of water infiltration into unsaturated soil slopes. This paper reports trends of wetting front suction (psi) of weathered soil-clay mixtures that are commonly found in Korea. Both tensiometer tests and numerical analyses are performed to evaluate the effect of wetting front suction loss on unsaturated mixture soil slopes with a certain amount of clay fractions. It is found that until 10% clay content is the limit in weathered soil showing different wetting front suction which plays a key role in the stability of soil slopes.
