Abstract

The maritime transportation is one of the most important industries and a significant economic pillar in China. When the marine traffic accidents happen, it would cause serious consequence, especially in the intersecting water area where the traffic volume is large, the types of ships are diverse, and the navigation environment is complex. The analysis and calculation of the ship's traffic conflict risk are a quantitative method for judging the degree of traffic collision risk between ships. It can intuitively and effectively obtain the traffic collision risk, in order to curbing the occurrence of maritime traffic accidents. So the study of the traffic conflicts in the intersecting waters is an important measure to ensure the safety of maritime transportation. This paper summarizes the domestic and international maritime traffic risk analysis methods and chooses AIS data to analyze the risk of traffic conflicts in the intersecting waters. Then set up a model for the quantitative calculation of traffic risks in the intersecting waters, and put the model in the Wuhan section of the middle reaches of the Yangtze River.
