Abstract

The chemometric approach was used to study the relationship between chemical compositions and antioxidative activity of Ziziphus jujuba Mill. 1,1-Diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity and reducing power were investigated, and the contents of total phenolics, flavonoids, anthocyanins, saponins, sugars, cAMP, and cGMP were also measured. Significant differences were found in 20 varieties of Chinese jujube. By principal component analysis, the highest chemical contents were exhibited by Ziziphus jujuba cv. Shandongchangzao. Simple correlation and partial correlation analysis indicated that total flavonoids and 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical scavenging activity showed significant correlation; total phenolics and reducing power showed significant correlation (p < 0.05).
