Abstract

AbstractFor traditional village landscapes, sustainability can be seen as a complex system consisting of four dimensions: environmental, social, economic, and cultural. Based on the concept of sustainability, this paper takes farming-type traditional villages in western Henan as an example. By evaluating resource characteristics and distribution, conservation, and utilization of 11 typical traditional village samples, we summarize the resource characteristics of the villages and the sustainability and shortcomings of the existing development model. At the same time, through integrating the survey results, we propose strategies for the renewal of western Henan farming-type village landscapes in three aspects: environmental sustainability, economic and social sustainability, and cultural sustainability.
