Abstract

Aiming to improve the performance of magnetorheological fluids (MRF) applied in mechanical transmission system, a preparation method of silicone oil-based magnetorheological fluids is proposed, and the properties of prepared MRF are tested. The materials for MRF preparation are elaborated, and the process parameters and flowchart are designed. Moreover, scanning electron microscope is used to observe the changes between uncoated magnetic-particles and coated magnetic-particles, and three samples with the volume fractions of magnetic-particles 10%, 20%, and 30% are prepared. Finally, three properties of prepared MRF are tested. Analysis of the experimental results shows that the prepared MRF can satisfy the requirement of mechanical transmission system, and the optimal process parameters are illustrated.
