Abstract

A study of certain hardness and tensile properties of LM 22 reinforced with SiC and flyash to form a metal matrix composite (MMC) and is compared with the parent material. It was observed that the minimum value of hardness at 97.9BHN was the resultant of the composite with 5 percent reinforcement and post annealing. The value obtained in the hardness test had further minimized to 87.2BHN. The tensile strength test of the hybrid composite showed the result to have reduced from a value of 17.6 GPa to a value of 8.92 GPa which was achieved by adding the respective reinforcements into the composite and was observed to increase to 14.33 GPa with the increase in percentage of reinforcement beyond 4% Similar variation was witnessed in post weld specimens.
