Abstract

To reveal the dispersion properties of horizontal shear (SH) waves in piezoelectric plate, we establish the coupled governing equations based on elastodynamics theory. Different electrical boundary conditions, including the electrically shorted condition, the exact electrically open condition, and the approximate electrically open condition, are considered. The dispersive curves of SH waves in PZT-5A and ZnO are illustrated. Analytical and numerical results show that the non-dispersion mode does not exist when SH waves propagate in a piezoelectric plate. In the first mode, the maximum of the relative phase velocity error caused by approximate electrically open condition is only related to the ratio of effective elastic parameter and might be more than 37% for SH waves propagating in PZT-5A plate.
