Abstract

Objective To study the incidence of coronary atherosclerosis in patients with stroke. Methods All patients were selected from January 2010 to January 2012,of which 63 stroke patients with first attack were enrolled as stroke group and other 63 patients with non-cerebral vascular disease were as control group.Coronary angiography was given 1-2 weeks since patients were admitted to hospital.Coronary artery stenosis ≥50% was considered as coronary atherosclerosis.Gensini score was used to identify severity of coronary atherosclerosis. Results There were 16 patients (25.4%,16/63) identified as coronary atherosclerosis in stroke group and 4 patients (6.3%,4/63) in control group, and there was significant difference between two groups(x2=8.56,P < 0.01).Gensini score was (3.37 ± 0.72) points in stroke group and (0.44±0.16) points in control group, and there was significant difference between two groups (P<0.05).Conclusion Patients with first stroke have a higher incidence of coronary atherosclerosis.
