Abstract

Deep excavation in metropolitan areas causes more problems for the urban environment than before. Such environmental problems include surface ground subsidence, damages to the existing building, utility pipelines and safe construction of the new buildings, etc. Different excavation procedures have different influences on the environment. This paper explores the different excavation approaches and their influences on the ground environment by means of numerical analysis, and the methods to reduce the ground subsidence in the vicinity of the excavation, conclusions are helpful to urban construction.
