Study on the Efficacy of the Tibetan Medicine Er Shi Wu Wei Song Shi Pills Against Liver Fibrosis

Abstract

To investigate the effects of Er Shi Wu Wei Song Shi Pills on chronic liver fibrosis, 40 male rats were randomly divided into the model, control, positive control, original formula, and original formula minus cinnabar and turquoise groups. The rats were injected subcutaneously with 40% carbon tetrachloride olive oil solution for 56 days to establish chronic liver fibrosis model, during which the model and control groups received equal amount of saline, while the other groups received the corresponding drugs by gavage. Serum parameters were measured, and superoxide dismutase level was determined. Hepatic histopathological changes were observed by hematoxylin-eosin staining and the extent of liver fibrosis was observed by Masson staining. Compared with the control group, the serum levels in the model rats were significantly higher. Compared with the model group, the serum levels of the rats in the original formula group and the original formula minus cinnabar and turquoise group were significantly lower and the area of liver fibrosis was significantly reduced. In conclusion, chronic hepatic fibrosis can be prevented and treated by Er Shi Wu Wei Song Shi Pills before and after prescription reduction, with the best effect in the original formula group.
