Abstract

The anti-shudder effects of glycerol monoisostearate friction modifier (FM) in the ATF were investigated by using a disc-on-disc tribometer, which can highly simulate the working state of clutch plate. The results show that although the FM has no anti-shudder property, the anti-shudder durability of the ATF is greatly affected by the FM. The chemical changes of the tribosurface were characterized by SEM, EDX and XPS, and it is observed that the proper presence of the FM can improve the reaction probability of Ca-containing detergent and P-containing anti-wear in the ATF, so as to form a calcium hydroxyphosphate type tribofilm with higher coverage on the tribosurface. This tribofilm plays a vital role in improving the anti-shudder performance.
