Abstract

The hard nano Al2O3 particles are successfully embedded in the Ni composite coating. The presence and distribution of nano particles is analyzed by EDS method. The roughness of the composite coating surface is greatly influenced on the specific wear rate and coefficient of friction. The Ni-Al2O3 composite coatings have shown better specific wear rate in comparison with bare Ni coating. The coefficient of friction of the Ni- Al2O3 composite coating was found to decrease with increase in the roughness value. The maximum COF and minimum specific wear rate were found to be 0.457 and 0.85 × 10−4 mm3/Nm is observed at a Ra value of 1.032 μm respectively.
