Abstract
Objective The survey aimed to describe the level of self-perceived burden (SPB) and analyze its influencing factors among the patients with advanced esophageal cancer in order to provide a theoretical basis for individualized nursing care. Methods Convenient sampling method was used. Totally 110 hospitalized patients with esophageal cancer from 3 hospitals in Shandong Province were investigated with the Self-Perceived Burden Scale for Cancer Patient (SPBS-CP). The results underwent analysis. Results The total score of the SPBS-CP was (66.44±18.39), which indicated a moderate level. Those patients rated the highest score on the subscale of economic/family burden (23.97±6.70), while the lowest score on the subscale of care burden (12.00±3.93). Multiple regression analysis showed that the stage of disease, the informed time of the disease and treatment methods all had effect on SPB,t values were 2.598, -2.321 and 2.476. Conclusions Patients with moderate and advanced esophageal cancer had a moderate or higher level of SPB. Nurses should focus on the psychological status of the patients and take positive interven-tions to release the negative emotional experiences.
