Abstract
In order to explain the wave attenuation mechanism in hydrate-bearing sediments, the BISQ porous medium model was implemented in Shenhu area, South China Sea. P-wave attenuation in hydrate-bearing sediments represented different characteristics in different frequency ranges. Especially the seismic wave attenuation was observed to decrease with the increasing hydrate saturation. The actual application showed that seismic wave attenuation is an effective attribute to identify the specific distribution of gas hydrates.
