Abstract
In Romania, pork production is far below demand processing industry, offering only 30% of need, so that no other option than recourse to external sources. From August 2007, the total number of cattle slaughtered and their carcass weight recorded a decline of 26.4%, 26.9%, respectively, while the total number of pigs slaughtered and their carcass weight were decreased by 14.2%, 18.8%, respectively. In August, were killed with 9.2% fewer sheep and goats and their carcass weight was reduced by 32.2%. The total number of birds slaughtered decreased by 6.2%, but in carcass weight increased by 7.4%, compared to the same period last year. There is a decrease in the total import of meat from both fresh and frozen at that.
