Abstract

Objective To know the status of knowledge-attitude-practice (KAP) in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD), and to provide the basis for further developing the health education. Methods self-designed questionnaire survey was conducted among 206 COPD patients coming from four Class 3 Grade A comprehensive hospitals in Chongqing according to the convenience sampling principle. Results Among these subjects, the average correct rates of knowledge about risk factors and rehabilitation were 79.05% and 78.76%, respectively, and which about long-term domiciliary oxygen therapy (LTDOT) and medication treatment were 25.89% and 41.70%, respectively. 69.66% of them had active and correct belief and attitude regarding their disease. And only 18% of subjects could often insist the breath training exercise, and 51% of subjects could insist the physical exercise regularly. 94.2% of subjects wanted to gain the disease-related knowledge which mainly included the prevention, treatment and rehabilitation. The scores of KAP had no statistical significance for these patients with different education level (P>0.05). Conclusions The health-related KAP levels are not enough in COPD patients, and most of them desire these knowledge. The contents of health education of COPD should have emphasis and pertinence, especially emphasize the healthy behavior.
