Abstract

Fabrication of kerf width is an important characteristic of micro-channels. This paper presents an experimental study on the differences of kerf width of microchannels at different medium. In this research, laser transmission micromachining operation is conducted on thick polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) at partially submerged condition in water and in air for a comparative study to achieve desired results. The diode pump fiber laser with wavelength in near infrared region (1064 nm) has been used here to perform the study. The kerf width of the micro-channels in different medium has been taken as machining responses. 64 number of runs based on full factorial design of response surface methodology has been applied here to conduct the experiments. The effect of different medium on kerf width has been studied.
