Abstract

Jaipur district occupies considerable in area and production of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea) in the state of Rajasthan. The present investigation was undertaken with the objective growth rates in area, production and productivity of groundnut in Jaipur district as well as Rajasthan state. The secondary data on area, production and productivity of groundnut were collected for Jaipur district and Rajasthan state for the period 2008-09 to 2017-18. Growth rates were estimated by using statistical tools like linear function model, Semi-log function model and Exponential function model for calculating annual growth rate. The results revealed that area, production and productivity of groundnut were estimated to be negative in the district of Jaipur and these were positive in the state of Rajasthan as a whole for the period 2008-09 to 2017-18. Results were also found that the growth rates in area, production and productivity of groundnut were estimated to be significantly negative i.e. 3.63, 4.41 and 1.31 per cent per annum respectively, in the Jaipur district, whereas, in Rajasthan state, area, production and productivity of groundnut were estimated to be significantly positive i.e. 7.64, 11.54 and 3.90 per cent per annum, respectively, during the period 2008-09 to 2017-18. Therefore, the study recommends increasing the production by bringing more area under groundnut cultivation and productivity by developing improved varieties of groundnut suiting to the changing agro-climatic conditions of the state.
