Abstract
The study on flowfield around a model of X33 test vehicle was carried out visualizing the three-dimensional shock waves and stream patterns near the model surface. In general, it had been very difficult to visualize threedimensional flowfield phenomena around hypersonic vehicle. In order to visualize such three-dimensional flowfield phenomena in hypersonic flow, the electric discharge method had been developed by the author and others. The visualizations were carried out using the electric discharge method. The experiments were performed using a hypersonic gun tunnel. The main characteristics of the tunnel were the Mach number was 10 and the duration was 10 ms.
