Abstract

The application of geosynthetics in infrastructure is an innovative development in concrete with the usage of geo-grid. Usage of Steel fibres in RC beams provides an additional shear confinement in the plastic hinge region. The main aim of this study is to investigate the flexural behaviour of biaxial geogrids with and without steel fibres to know the possibility of biaxial geogrid and steel fibre as a substitute for shear reinforcement. In this study two types of beam specimens with the different configuration of transverse reinforcements were taken into consideration. These geogrid specimens and conventional concrete specimens were tested under three point monolithic loading to obtain the comparative load–deflection behaviour. The experimental test shows significant improvement in the flexural strength, stiffness degradation, energy dissipation capacity, displacement ductility and the ultimate load with its corresponding deflection.
