Abstract

This investigation is concerned with the simulation of the electromagnetic field produced by a horizontal electric dipole with the electromagnetic simulation software CST. It is easy but important to prove the validity of the CST modeling and simulation method to study the electromagnetic propagation characteristics by comparing the simulation results of CST with the theoretical mathematical model of unlimited single seawater. And then based on the modeling and simulation method of CST, a study on the differences of electromagnetic field propagation characteristics between which is in single seawater and which is in air-sea or sea-seabed two-layer media. The most important difference between the two kinds of models is that the electromagnetic propagation distance is much further in air-sea than single seawater, and that is because there exists a lateral propagation path in air-sea model. The further of the horizontal distance between the source and point of observation, the more important role the lateral path play. There are similar characteristics in sea-seabed model.
