Abstract

The high strength and durability of synthetic polymers in comparison to the conventional materials has paved way for the same to be utilized in numerous engineering applications, especially, in the area of repair and rehabilitation of structures. The methods to blend these polymers with suitable functional fillers/reinforcement have been of great importance in achieving the most desired property, and this has resulted in obtaining more cheaper and flexible materials. Depending upon the formulation of the composite one can always achieve various advantages in improving the properties like compressive strength, tensile strength, flexural strength and fracture toughness. The following study has been focused to critically analyze the effects corresponding to the variations in the above mentioned engineering parameters due to the addition of micro and macro fillers and fibers in the polymer matrix depending upon the functionality.
