Abstract

The success of a film is mainly determined by box office. Only when we have a clear understanding of what influences the box office can we improve and make films more popular. The box office is not only affected by the film’s own characteristics, but also influenced by factors such as publicity marketing and audience feedback during the film’s release. Therefore, this paper builds a more comprehensive index system of box office influence factors, then analyze the box office influence factors during the release. Regarding the trend of box office as an unknown function, we use the semi-parametric model to analyze the influence factors. The empirical analysis shows that its’ fitting effect is better than the parametric regression model, which verifies the advantages of the semi-parametric regression model. The trend of box office shows a negative exponential function, the box office is mainly determined by the audience’s attention, pursuit and discussion of the film. At the same time, the continuous release of marketing materials also have an impact on the box office.
