Abstract

The subsolidus phase relationships in the CuO-rich region of the Ho 2O 3BaOCuO ternary system were determined by means of X-ray diffraction and superconductivity measurements. There exist two compounds: HoBa 2Cu 3O 7 − δ and Ho 2BaCuO 5. HoBa 2Cu 3O 7 − δ belongs to the orthrhombic distorted perovskite structure with lattice constants a = 3.877, b = 3.812, c = 11.68 A ̊ . The space group is Pmmm. Ho 2BaCuO crystallizes in the orthrhombic structure with a = 7.324, b = 12.263, c = 5.594 A ̊ . The space group is Pbnm or Pbn2 1. The thermal properties of HoBa 2Cu 3O 7 − δ were studied by differential thermal analysis and thermogravimetric analysis. The relationship between composition and superconductivity was also discussed.
