Abstract
Beta- and gamma-rays in the decay of In 109 (4.3 h) were investigated using a two-directional focusing beta-ray spectrometer and scintillation spectrometers. The maximum energy of the positon spectrum was determined to be 0.790±0.008 MeV, and many new gamma-rays of considerable intensity were found, having energies of 0.326, 0.340, 0.623, 0.627, 0.651, 0.725, 0.821, 1.047, 1.148, 1.194, 1.545, 1.614 and 1.680 MeV. On the basis of the measurements of internal conversion electrons, gamma-ray single, summing peak, beta-gamma and gamma-gamma coincidence spectra, a new decay scheme for In 109 is proposed. The spins and parities of the levels of Cd 109 are discussed in relation to the level schemes of the neighbouring oddmass cadmium isotopes.
