Abstract

The present study examined the effects of an implant of the adrenal medullar into the lumbar subarachnoid space in rat models of pain. The left adrenal medullar was grafted and sham animals were implanted with a piece of muscle. The experimental models of pain were electrical stimulation of the tail, paw pinch in arthritic rats, sciatic nerve transection and cervical posterior rhizotomy. Our results suggest that adrenal medullary implant reduces the pain sensitivity during the first weeks after surgery.
