Abstract

This study investigates the effects of droplet impact on the change in stress state of 08kp steel with Ti-TiC-DLC type ion plasma diamond-like carbon coating deposited by high-speed pulsed magnetron sputtering (HiPIMS) technology. To this end, a method for determining the stress state in the coating was developed based on measuring the substrate deformation (curvature). The conclusion is that the initial application of coating results in compressive stresses and then the stresses begin to gradually change their sign and become tensile due to the applied specific droplet impact force. Further growth of stress state and increase in tensile stresses in the coating gradually leads to the end of erosion incubation stage and the start of destruction of the "coating-substrate" system.
