Abstract

Eighty percent of primiparous women are faced with sexual problems after delivery and two thirds of them experiences the problem for 6 months. Objective To determine sexual problems resulting from delivery in primiparous women. Design This was a cross-sectional study in which sexual problems of primiparous women after delivery were determined. Primary data were collected through questionnaires. Sample Through consecutive sampling, 160 primiparous women were selected. Result The findings showed painful penetration, dyspareunia, itching after intercourse, lack of vaginal lubrication, loss of sexual desire, difficulty in reaching orgasm and increased anal sexual relation after delivery ( p<0.05). There was significant relation between decreased sexual desire and marriage duration, pain during intercourse with number of intercourse per week, pain during intercourse with time of first intercourse, and anal sexual relation with kind of delivery ( p<0.05). Conclusion Data indicated that sexual problem was increased after delivery. It is recommended that sexual problems after delivery be placed on the list of health teaching issues. It is also suggested that sexual problems of men be investigated.
