Abstract

Chalcogenide glasses of composition 72.5Ga2S3(27.5-x)La2O3xLaF3 (x=7.5, 10, 12.5) are prepared by melt quenching method after purification of materials. The as-prepared glasses are characterized by XRD and DTA. Polished samples are indented using Vickers micro-hardness tester. The glass transition temperature Tg is increased with increase in LaF3 composition, whereas the Vickers hardness is decreased. The clear phase transition temperature of as-prepared glasses is studied using optical transmission studies. The thermo mechanical parameters such as formation energy (Eh) of micro void, volume (Vh) in the glassy network, and as well as the modulus of elasticity E have been estimated.
