Abstract

There were observed at least three types of nonequivalent centers in quasicubic crystals ZnS:Tm 3+. Fluorescence, polarization, IR and temperature quenching of those centers depend on preparation. The number of nonequivalent Tm 3+ centers in ZnS will be probably more than three as a result of charge compensation (Tm 3+−V Zn complexes create) and due to the different distances of Tm 3+ ion from the stacking faults in the host lattice.
