Abstract

Objective To study the value of monitoring high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) in elderly patients with aspiration pneumonia. Methods 50 elderly patients with aspiration pneumonia were studied. The hs-CRP level was detected on the first day,the third day,and the seventh day of diagnosis, analyzed and compared combined with the patients' condition changes and outcomes. Results After the treatment,in 50 elderly patients with aspiration pneumonia,37 cases were cured or relieved,13 patients died (26.0 %).On the third day,the hs-CRP level was significantly increased (P <0.01),and on the seventh day,the hs-CRP level was decreased significantly (P <0.01).On the third and seventh day,the hs-CRP level in the severe group was significantly higher than that in mild group (P <0.01).On different day,the hs-CRP level in death group was higher than that in cure or remission group (P <0.05 or P <0.01).Conclusions Dynamic monitoring of the changes of serum hs-CRP can effectively reflect the changes in the condition of elderly patients with aspiration pneumonia, the disease severity, and outcome prognosis.
