Abstract

Abstract In the present research, the high temperature oxidation behaviour of Wire Arc sprayed Ni-5Al coating on T-11 and Gr-A1 boiler steels was studied at 9000C for 50 cycles. Each cycle consisted of 1 hour heating at 9000C followed by 20 min of cooling in air at room temperature. The kinematics of oxidation was established using weight change measurements for the bare and coated boiler steels. The oxidized samples were characterized using XRD, SEM/EDS, X-Ray mapping analyses. The coating was found to offer excellent oxidation resistance to the base steels. This may be attributed to the formation of strong protective chromium aluminium oxide phases.
