Abstract

This paper presents the results of a study of typical disturbances on an HVDC system. The CIGRE HVDC benchmark model is chosen for this study. The faults on the DC line are the most unfavorable case for the stability of an HVDC system. This paper showed that a protection system must complete the control system in order to palliate to the faults that can occur on the DC line. If DC control and protection system modules fail, system safety will be threatened heavily. Simulation study on SimPowerSystems toolbox in the MATLAB is carried out to validate the concept.
