Abstract
1. 1. The activities of various enzymes were measured in the pyloric caecum, cardiac stomach and gonads in the starfish. The pyloric caecum was also subcellular fractionated. 2. 2. High activity of the hydrolase group was found in the pyloric caecum and in the supernatant fraction. 3. 3. The highest activity of alkaline phosphatase was observed in the pyloric caecum and in the microsomal fraction, with the lowest in the gonads. Acid phosphatase activity was found in the mitochondrial fraction of the pyloric caecum. 4. 4. Powerful trypsin-like and arylamidase-like activities were found in the pyloric caecum. The former was in the supernatant fraction and the latter was in the microsomal fraction. 5. 5. High activity of creatine-phosphokinase was found in the gonads.
