Abstract
Studies on the effect of crosslinker on the stability of a castor-oil-based aliphatic polyurethane potting compounds under thermal ageing, autoclaving and gamma-radiation sterilisation conditions were carried out. Two potting compounds, the first consisting of castor oil segments and an isocyanate crosslinker and the second with a smaller castor oil segment and a polyether polyol crosslinker, were found to be appreciably stable under thermal ageing. However, the first potting compound undergoes degradation under sterilisation conditions while the second potting compound undergoes crosslinking under sterilisation conditions. A potting compound based on polyether polyol crosslinker would be a more promising compound for hollow fibres.
