Abstract

A method is described for the preparation of mono- and disulfate esters of polar steroids. Cortisol-21-sulfate and tetrahydro-cortisol-3, 21-disulfate (THFdiS) were prepared with good yields; tetrahydrocortisol-3-sulfate and tetrahydrocortisol-3,17,21-trisulfate were formed as by-products during the THFdiS synthesis. The steroid mono-, di- and trisulfate mixture was resolved by means of high voltage paper electrophoresis. The latter, in conjunction with other techniques, was also used for the characterization and identification of the synthesized compounds.
