Abstract

Some quinoline derivatives, selected on the basis of previously reported screening, have been studied for their activity against Epidermophyton floccosum, Trichophyton rubrum, and Trichophyton gypseum by the agar cup-plate as well as by the agar-streak methods. Other tests conducted included the effect of organic matter on their activity and the in vitro activity when the compounds are incorporated in an ointment base. The compounds were finally tested in vivo for their interference in the normal rate of healing of wounds. It appears that 8-acetoxyquinoline, 5-formyl-8-hydroxyquinoline, and 5-acetyl-8-hydroxyquinoline might prove to be useful as antifungal agents.
